How it works
This tool sends your search text to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim geocoding service, which matches it against map data and returns the coordinates of the best result. It works for street addresses, cities, regions, and well-known landmarks.
Tips for better results
- Include a city or country if the place name is common (e.g. "Springfield, Illinois" rather than just "Springfield").
- Landmark and business names generally work, but very new or small businesses may not be indexed yet.
- Postal codes are supported in many countries.
Going the other way
If you already have coordinates and want an address instead, use Coordinates to Address.
Frequently asked questions
What can I search for?
You can search for a full address, a city or town, a landmark name, or a postal code. The tool returns the coordinates of the best match found.
Which service provides the results?
Results come from OpenStreetMap's Nominatim geocoding service. Your search text is sent directly from your browser to Nominatim to find a match.
What if my search returns no results?
Try a more specific or differently formatted query — for example, adding a city or country name. Very new or very small locations may not be indexed by the underlying map data.
