Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how LocateMeTools ("we", "us") handles information when you use locatemetools.com (the "Site"). We've tried to write it in plain language and to only claim what our code actually does.

Where your data is processed

Most tools on this Site run entirely inside your browser. Your device's GPS/location fix, the distance calculation, and the coordinate-format conversion are all computed locally on your device using standard web APIs — that data is never transmitted anywhere by those steps.

What is sent to third parties

Some features cannot work without contacting an outside service. When this happens, the relevant data is sent directly from your browser to that service — not to a server we control:

• Reverse and forward geocoding ("My Location", "Coordinates → Place", "Place → Coordinates") sends your coordinates or search text to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to look up an address or place.
• IP address lookup ("My IP Address") sends a request to ipify (api.ipify.org / api64.ipify.org) to determine your public IP address.
• Google Maps — if you click "Google Maps" or a map is shown after you locate yourself, your coordinates are sent to Google to display or open the map. The map is only loaded after you request your location; it is not loaded on page load.

These are independent third-party services with their own privacy practices. We do not control what they do with a request once it leaves your browser, and we encourage you to review their respective privacy policies if you have concerns.

What LocateMeTools itself stores

We do not operate a server that logs, stores, or sells the coordinates, IP address, address lookups, or search queries generated while you use our tools. There is no account system, no login, and no database of user activity. If you use our contact form, your message is sent directly via your own email client (a "mailto" link) and is never transmitted to or stored by this Site.

Cookies and advertising

This Site uses Google AdSense to display ads. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings, or generally at www.aboutads.info/choices. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.

You can learn how Google uses data when you use our site at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. Where required by law (for example, for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland), a consent message is shown so you can choose whether ads may use cookies and personal data, and you can change that choice at any time.

LocateMeTools does not currently run any analytics scripts beyond what is described above.

Log data from hosting infrastructure

Like most websites, the infrastructure that serves this Site may automatically record standard technical information (such as IP address, browser type, and request timestamps) in server logs for security and performance purposes. This is standard web hosting behavior and is separate from anything our own code does.

Children's privacy

This Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

You can deny or revoke location access at any time in your browser or device settings, and location-based tools will not function without your explicit permission for each request.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to keep it accurate. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
